Environmental Diplomacy on Global Health
Sustainable development is the pathway to the future we want for all. It offers a framework to generate economic growth, achieve social justice, exercise environmental stewardship and strengthen governance.
- Ban Ki MoonThe first session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) of the United Nations Environment Programme was convened on June 23, 2014, at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi with more than 1200 participants including Environment Ministers, Government delegates and representatives of major groups and stakeholders. It was indeed a historical event wherein the environment took centre stage in the international community. Taking cue from UNEA, Harithkram started its journey of hosting HMUNEA in 2014 with a shared vision of setting up a path of environmental sustainability. This year, we eagerly await the fourth edition of Model United Nation Environment Assembly on September 20 - 21, 2019.
This simulation of the UNEA of the United Nations Environment Programme offers young scholars from varied backgrounds to brainstorm, debate and discuss on pressing environmental concerns and issues and make the discourse on environment richer. It is a splendid opportunity for young voices to ensure a clean, green and fresh environment.
In its own small way, HMUNEA will fulfil the aims and goals set out by the founders of United Nations in the Preamble of the Charter: “to produce tolerance and live together in peace as good neighbours.”
It is a splendid opportunity for all those caretakers of the environment, who have always desired to ensure the inviolability of the environment intact, and to those who have longed themselves to become a mouthpiece of environment.
